Jean was born and raised in Malone, NY into a close knit family of 6 children and mother and father.
She spent her childhood playing in the farmlands and forests of northern New York, learning to respect
and love nature.
She and her siblings learned where to pick wild berries, grapes and other food during every season,
and watched her mother can, freeze and bake the bounties.
Animals were important to Jean and her family and their dogs, cats and horses occupied an esteemed
place in the family structure and their care and well being was an important priority.
In adulthood Jean and her husband Larry lived in Lake Placid during the 1980 winter Olympics, then in
Dallas Texas and eventually in East Hampton, Long Island where she found a creative outlet in
decorating, working with a number of prominent designers in the New York City-Long Island area.
Decorating satisfied her love for beauty and she began to explore environmentally friendly methods that
reflected her love for the natural world.
4 years ago she returned to her hometown to be close to her father in the last years of his life and
decided to start a business that practiced her belief in the idea of reduce, reuse, and recycle.
She purchased an old building in downtown Malone and lovingly restored it with her family into a
beautiful and unique space where she operates a retail store and designer workroom (Creative Home
Elements) filled with industrial sewing machines, button makers and more.
Her vision is to eventually open a manufacturing facility in the North Country that makes environmentally
friendly bedding products for the hotel industry and other organic home products and gives an
opportunity for young men and women to learn a trade that will allow them to earn a good living
wherever their lives lead them.
